Just had installed yesterday Fabspeed's Muffler Bypass Pipes on my `04 G. For those interested, the pipes are the cheapest route to changing the sound of the original exhaust which, BTW, I never thought was bad, just not loud enough! Anyway, I couldn't believe the size and weight of the two stock mufflers that were removed from the ass end, saving 55 lbs. of ugly fat. If the gained space were somehow usable, I'd be able to fit a couple of fairly large carry-on bags back there! So now my exhaust system consists of two cats connected to two unrestricted pipes. As Fabspeed told me, no CEL displayed on the 110 mile drive home, so I don't anticipate there ever will be. Nor should I have a problem with the emission test, as that, I'm told, is sampled at the point where the exhaust exits the cats. The result is an extremely aggressive sound at start up and idle, and under hard acceleration, but in 6th gear on the interstate it is no louder inside the car than the stock system. I'd describe the sound as a deep growl rather than the high pitch of a F1 car.
